Maricopa County Jail Roster Overview

The official Maricopa County inmate records lookup is MCSO Inmate Information. It is not a casual browse-all jail roster. The public page offers direct lookup by booking number or by name and date of birth. Both routes use reCAPTCHA, and MCSO warns that online information should not be relied on for legal action because it may be incomplete, delayed, or affected by false identifying information.

MCSO is the primary booking facility in Maricopa County and assists many law-enforcement agencies with jail intake. A person arrested by Phoenix PD, Mesa PD, Scottsdale PD, Tempe PD, Glendale PD, DPS, or another agency may still be booked into MCSO custody. Initial arrest questions may belong to the arresting agency, while jail custody, release, bond, mail, and visit questions usually route through MCSO.

The county roster does not cover every person with a Maricopa County case. Sentenced state prisoners move into Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation and Reentry custody. Federal prisoners use BOP systems. Immigration detainees use ICE ODLS after transfer. VINELink can support notifications, but it is not the official court record or a replacement for MCSO, ADCRR, BOP, or ICE lookup.

That is why the first question is custody type, not just name. A jail result, prison result, court case, and mugshot can each answer a different part of the record.

How to Use Maricopa County InmateInfo

The fastest route is the booking-number tab. MCSO validates a seven-character booking number: first character is a letter, followed by six numbers. If the booking number is not known, the name and date-of-birth tab requires last name, first name, and DOB in YYYYMMDD format. A partial name or first initial is not enough for the official form.

1. Open the official MCSO Inmate Information page.
2. Use "Search by Booking Number" when the seven-character booking number is known.
3. Use "Search by Name & Dob" when the booking number is unknown, entering first name, last name, and DOB.
4. Complete reCAPTCHA, submit the form, and read MCSO's accuracy warning before relying on the result.
5. If the person is not found, call SIMS, check court records, or search ADCRR, BOP, ICE, and VINELink as appropriate.

Maricopa County Roster Search Fields

MCSO's public form is strict. A failed search can mean the person is not in custody, but it can also mean the data was formatted wrong. Name fields reject numbers and most special characters except hyphen and apostrophe. DOB must be eight numeric characters. The search form does not support arrest-date browsing, charge browsing, facility filtering, race, gender, or a partial booking-number search.

What Maricopa County Inmate Records Show

The public research confirmed the MCSO search requirements, but a full live inmate profile was not opened because the form requires a valid current booking/person and reCAPTCHA. Treat detailed fields conservatively. Do not assume every public result shows a mugshot, housing unit, court date, arresting agency, or bond amount unless MCSO displays it in the current profile.

When Maricopa County Search Fails

A no-result search does not settle custody status. The person may still be in booking, may have been released, may have used different identifying data, may be under a different court path, or may have transferred to ADCRR, BOP, ICE, or another agency. If a court case exists but MCSO has no custody result, use Superior Court or Justice Court search because a case can outlive jail custody.

No official MCSO inmate-search mobile app was confirmed in the research. Use the official web tools, jail phone line, records channels, and the agency locators above rather than third-party roster apps.

Maricopa County Jail Facilities

Maricopa County does not operate one single jail building. MCSO spreads custody across a Phoenix jail system with an intake and release hub, high-security housing, medical and mental-health units, women's custody, direct-supervision housing, and short-term temporary holding. The jail information phone number used across the county jail pages is 602-876-0322.

Booking and Intake Records

Police custody bookings are processed at the Intake, Transfer and Release Facility. The booking path starts with arrest by MCSO, a city police department, DPS, or another agency, followed by transport to ITR unless a specific exception applies. Intake collects identifying information, starts custody processing, provides access to a telephone for collect calls as needed, and routes medical concerns to jail medical staff.

MCSO tells arrestees under a doctor's care to tell medical staff during initial booking about prescribed medication. Medication from home or outside the jail is not accepted for inmate consumption. Jail medical staff order and dispense required medication through the jail process. All MCSO releases are processed through ITR, and released inmates are directed to the public lot at Gibson and 28th Drive for pickup.

Maricopa County Visitation Rules

MCSO non-legal visitation is remote video through ViaPath/GettingOut. The inspected MCSO visitation page states that onsite video visits are currently suspended. The family page says remote visit sessions are 30 minutes and cost $0.25 per minute. Friends and family need a validated ViaPath account, and on-demand "Visit Now" is initiated by the inmate.

Visitors must be identifiable during visits. MCSO rules prohibit recording inmates, extra device use, nudity, drug or alcohol activity, gang activity, other inmates participating, and abusive conduct. Violations may stop a visit, restrict an account, or discipline the inmate.

Mail, Phone, and Money

MCSO centralizes general incoming inmate mail at Lower Buckeye Jail, even when the person is housed elsewhere in the jail system. The mail format is inmate name and booking number, Lower Buckeye Jail, 3250 West Lower Buckeye Road, Phoenix, Arizona 85009. All incoming mail except legal mail must be standard postcards, with strict size, ink, and content rules. Books and publications must come directly from the publisher.

Inmates cannot receive incoming telephone calls. GTL manages the inmate telephone system. Calls are usually available from about 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., though unit rules vary and some units allow 24-hour access. Personal calls are recorded and monitored, max call length is 20 minutes, three-way calls are not allowed, and legal calls are treated as privileged only when the system recognizes the attorney number.

Money-release and property-release rules are separate from deposits. MCSO says an inmate may release all money in the account without approval only during the first 72 hours after booking. After that, approval from the Jail Commander or designee is required.
